Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 16 ounces package Bisquick (gluten free if needed)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (divided)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning (or dried basil)
Wet Ingredients
- 1 ¼ cups whole milk (buttermilk, or a full-fat plant-based alternative)
- 2 large eggs (whisked)
- ½ cup butter (salted, divided)
Add-ins
- 1 cup Cheddar cheese (finely shredded)
Instructions
- Make the Batter: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large bowl, combine Bisquick, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, and salt. Whisk these dry ingredients until well mixed. Pour in the whole milk, whisked eggs, and 4 tablespoons of melted butter that has cooled to room temperature. Stir with a spatula until a soft dough forms. Gently fold in the shredded Cheddar cheese without overmixing the dough to maintain the biscuit’s light texture.
- Scoop and Bake: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Using a ¼-cup measuring cup, scoop out portions of batter onto the sheet, shaping them into 12 evenly sized biscuits. Bake in the preheated oven for 14 to 16 minutes, or until the biscuit edges begin to turn a golden brown, indicating they are fully cooked.
- Make Butter Topping: While the biscuits bake, melt the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter in a small microwave-safe bowl. Whisk in the remaining ½ teaspoon of garlic powder and the Italian seasoning to create a flavorful garlic herb butter topping.
- Top with Butter and Serve: As soon as the biscuits come out of the oven, brush them generously with the prepared garlic herb butter using a pastry brush. Optionally, sprinkle with finely chopped fresh parsley for extra color and flavor. Serve immediately to enjoy the biscuits at their best, warm and savory.
Notes
- You can substitute whole milk with buttermilk or a full-fat plant-based milk alternative for a dairy-free option.
- Using gluten-free Bisquick allows this recipe to be made gluten-free.
- Do not overmix the dough once the cheese is added to keep the biscuits light and fluffy.
- Brush the biscuits with the garlic butter immediately after baking for the best flavor absorption.
- For added freshness, garnish with chopped parsley or chives before serving.
