Description

Learn an easy and safe method to cut an avocado perfectly every time. This simple step-by-step guide shows you how to slice, twist, and remove the pit from an avocado, making it ready for your favorite dishes.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe avocado

Instructions

  1. Slice the avocado: Slice the avocado lengthwise with a sharp knife until you feel the blade hit the pit. Then, rotate the avocado while keeping the knife steady to make a clean cut all around the avocado.
  2. Separate the halves: Hold both halves and twist them in opposite directions to separate the avocado into two halves.
  3. Remove the pit: Carefully strike the pit with the knife blade so that the knife sticks in the pit. Twist the knife to loosen and lift the pit out of the flesh.
  4. Discard the pit: Press the pit gently on the unsharpened side of the knife with your thumb and pointer finger to safely remove the pit from the blade.
  5. Score the flesh: Using the knife, make lengthwise and crosswise cuts in the avocado flesh while still in the skin, creating a grid pattern for easy scooping.
  6. Scoop the avocado: Use a spoon to scoop out the diced avocado pieces from the skin, ready to use in your recipe or serve fresh.

Notes

  • Use a ripe avocado for easier cutting and better flavor.
  • Exercise caution when handling the knife around the pit to avoid injury.
  • If you prefer, you can scoop the avocado halves with a spoon directly without scoring.
  • Use the avocado immediately to avoid browning or squeeze some lemon juice on it for slower oxidation.
