Description

This hearty Tater Tots Casserole features ground beef cooked with onions and garlic, combined with creamy mushroom soup, sour cream, and Worcestershire sauce. Mixed vegetables add color and nutrition, all topped with crispy tater tots and melted cheddar cheese for a comforting, family-friendly meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn, and green beans)

Topping

  • 3 cups frozen tater tots
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook Beef and Onion: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion together until the beef is browned and no longer pink, about 6–7 minutes. Drain any excess fat to keep the casserole from being greasy.
  3. Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute to release its flavor without burning.
  4. Mix Creamy Ingredients: Add the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir well to combine all the flavors thoroughly.
  5. Add Vegetables: Fold in the frozen mixed vegetables, mixing until evenly distributed throughout the beef mixture.
  6. Assemble Casserole: Transfer the beef and vegetable mixture to your prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  7. Add Tater Tots and Cheese: Arrange the frozen tater tots in an even layer on top of the beef mixture. Then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the tater tots.
  8. Bake: Place the casserole in the oven and bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes. The tater tots should become crispy and golden, and the cheese should be melted and bubbly.
  9. Serve: Once baked, allow to cool slightly before serving hot for a delicious, comforting meal.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of smoked paprika or cayenne pepper to the beef mixture.
  • You can substitute cream of chicken soup for mushroom soup if preferred.
  • This casserole also works well with ground turkey as a leaner alternative to beef.
